With the New Year approaching, most of us take some time to reflect on the year that is reaching its conclusion. Many of us set resolutions, big dreams and ponder what the next year brings us. There are others who boycott the concept of resolutions. I like to take some time to set my intentions or focus for the coming year. One year my focus was to believe, another year was peace and 2018 was to focus on gratitude. For 2019, my focus will be on inspired action. I know that is two words! Sometimes I feel I am wondering around aimlessly. I desire to take each step with more intention and more focus. This year I will be building a vision board to assist me.
Why a vision board?
I have been doing vision boards for years. I do them usually around my birthday in September. Let me tell you about my first vision board. My mind had been very busy. I knew that I wanted something different from my life and I wasn’t sure where to start. So I thought I would give this vision board thing a try. I pulled many pictures from magazines that attracted my attention. There were words too. I love words!! On my vision board there were only two people– a little girl with angel wings and Louise Hay. I love Louise…it took some time for me to understand her work and I have been known to not willingly accept some of her ideas. I was very skeptical in the beginning. Now I write and say affirmations every day. I love Louise’s confidence and the grace that she moves through life with.
Later that year, I was a the first “I Can Do It!” conference in Toronto. It is an event that Hay House presents. Louise founded the company with her book You Can Heal Your Body. She was not scheduled to be there. I was sitting in the audience listening to a speaker and thought it was a good time to go to the bookstore as I thought it wouldn’t be so busy. I went and bought a few books and thought, “Wouldn’t it be great to have someone sign these?” I turned around and sitting behind me at a table with a pen in her hand was Louise Hay!! I was so shocked!! I went up to talk to her and asked her to sign my books. I sounded like some mix of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Charlie Brown’s teacher!! I was completely gobsmacked. Louise was so kind!!
That’s how I got hooked on vision boards!!
